Crop-MATCHING’s first EU Policy Exchange Hybrid Event

As part of its activities, the Horizon Europe project Crop-MATCHING will organise a side event on 9 September 2026, focusing on Sustainable Agri-Food Transitions: Matching Natural Solutions and Practices, within the framework of the 194th EAAE Seminar.

The 194th Seminar of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) entitled “Matching Agri-Food Systems and Ecosystems via AI: Aligning Digital Innovation with Sustainability and Policy Goals,” will be held on 10–11 September 2026, at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh) in Crete, Greece. This international forum focuses on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing sustainable and resilient agri-food systems, highlighting improved natural resource management, enhanced decision-making across the agri-food sector, and stronger integration between agricultural production and ecosystem protection.

It is expected to bring together agricultural economists, researchers, policymakers, representatives of European institutions, farmers’ organisations, industry professionals, agri-tech innovators, and postgraduate students, creating a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and forward-looking dialogue on the future of agri-food systems in Europe.

As part of the scientific programme, selected papers presented at the seminar will be published in a multi-authored edited volume, further amplifying the reach and impact of the research and discussions showcased during the event.

A series of pre-seminar side events will take place on 9 September 2026, creating valuable opportunities to exchange experiences, strengthen collaboration across European projects, and engage directly with key stakeholders in the agri-food sector. These interactive sessions are designed to foster knowledge sharing, stimulate synergies, and support the development of new partnerships and initiatives.

The deadline to register for the pre-seminar side events is 24 August 2026.

For detailed information on the programme, registration, accommodation, and travel arrangements, please visit the official website of the 194th EAAE Seminar.

In addition, participants of the side events will have the opportunity to take part in the 1st European Policy Exchange Event, organised within the Crop-MATCHING project and held on 9 September as part of Session 2A: “Policy Dialogue on Sustainable Agri-Food Transitions” (11:30–13:00). EU, national, and regional policymakers, local and regional authorities, and project partners from at least 10 countries across Europe are invited to discuss current policy and governance frameworks supporting smallholder farming and the adoption of crop-matching practices.
